Geek Fuel August 2016 AND Suicide Squad: Rebirth #1 thoughts

2016-09-02_21.40.09Welcome everyone and thanks for coming to hang out with us today! We are opening up August’s Geek Fuel box to see what kind of goodies we get this time! This was a fantastic box this month with some awesome items! Check out the video and watch us open it up and show everything inside!

Thanks for watching and reading guys! Out of this box Vanessa and I ended up agreeing that the Suicide Squad Rebirth #1 was the beez kneez out of this box! In other news I just read Suicide Squad Rebirth #1! It was written by Rob Williams with art by Jonathan Glapion and Philip Tan and they do an exceptional job introducing this franchise! I really enjoyed the art, I enjoyed the story and I think it was a great way to kick off the book! We meet a lot of the major players and get a background story while STILL getting a real story that is entertaining! Overall I think it was a great read!

Batman (2016) #2 – DC Universe Rebirth

Batman rebirth 2It’s that time again! Today we are going to jump into issue two of Batman: Rebirth! Right off the bat (no pun intended) I was drawn in by the cover of this issue! I am Gotham Part 2. This issue was written by Tom King with pencils by David Finch. Let’s get started…

The Issue starts out with a battle between Solomon Grundy and Gotham, Gotham Girl and Batman. The scene lasted a few pages and was concluded with Batman making a clever joke. It was a nice little series of pages and a nice action scene. Batman has apparently been observing Gotham and Gotham girl from a distance and told Gotham that he was doing good, but to do better. Gotham then goes on to ask Batman for guidance on how to ‘fight the war better’. We then cut to a Bruce and Alfred scene that was quite entertaining. Making a joke that he was shocked when Bruce was talking about Gotham was in chaos. Quite funny, nice writing!

Next we cut to a scene with Gordon and the person that claims he was the one that set free Solomon Grundy. I can’t pinpoint why but this page’s art really draws (no pun intended again) me in, I am loving it! The person then identifies himself as Bob Castro (should I know who this is?). I don’t guess it matters because a page later he plunges a knife into his neck as he announces to Gordon that ‘the monster men are coming, aren’t they strange?’. I have no idea what this means but I am very intrigued. Bob Castro apparently thought that releasing Solomon Grundy was the only chance we had against the ‘monster men’.

Back to Bruce Wayne as he is dancing with a lady and then abruptly decides he has to go (after seeing the Bat Signal out the window). Very nice art on this page as well. He tells Alfred that he is going to bring Gotham and Gotham Girl with him to meet Gordon this time. We then get a very nicely done splash page of Gordon, Gotham and Gotham Girl which made me very happy. After being introduced Jim makes a joke in which he asks ‘is it really easier to fight crime with a mask on?’. He says he thinks it’d itch. A couple pages later, after Jim explains what happened with Bob in his office, Batman does his notorious disappearing act and Gotham asks where he went to which Jim of course replied ‘yeah, he does that’. Gotham is confused because with his special vision he can ‘see everything’ but can’t seem to see Batman. Jim welcome them to the team.

We then cut to a scene that reveals Hugo Strange talking to Roger!

Alright guys, that’s it for this issue! I would say this was a very entertaining issue as well! Make sure to head over to the link below and purchase your digital copy so you can read it now! Let me know what you think!

DC Universe Rebirth #1 (One Shot)

RebirthI decided today to jump on into Rebirth. I’m not sure to what extent I am going to immerse myself yet but I decided to start at what seemed to be a good starting point. The one shot DC Universe Rebirth. This comic was released on May 25th, 2016 and was written by Geoff Johns. I have been excited to see what this had in store for DC for quite some time but haven’t jumped in until today. So let’s jump in.

I jumped right into the pages and was almost immediately greeted by Superman, Batman and quickly after that The Flash. I was immediately impressed by the artwork of Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Gary Frank and Phil Jimenez. I quickly gobbled up Chapter 1: Lost and was in love immediately. From the internal monologue of Wally West to the creativity of using the Flash Point was brilliant. I knew right then I was hooked already.

The second chapter just kept getting me deeper and deeper immersed into the story, or the Microverse. I don’t want to reveal too many spoilers in this particular blog but the story just keeps getting better page after page. I soon reached the end of Chapter 2, yearning for more! Chapter 2 was called ‘Legacy’.

Without slowing down I jumped head first into Chapter 3. And as quickly as it started chapter 3, titled ‘Love’, had ended. We got to see Aquaman in this chapter as well as Wally West finding Linda only to find out she didn’t remember him! So is he lost forever? What’s going on?! Let’s keep reading!

I jumped quickly into Chapter 4. I will say it straight up, chapter 4 actually hit at the heart strings. I thought Wally West was a goner and when Barry saved him it really made my eyes watery. And at the end of this chapter we get to see Batman again, we are learning more about the ‘forgotten’ time. The story is getting deep, The Watchmen. That’s all I will say about that for now, but THE WATCHMEN!

Then I quickly (and sadly) jumped into the Epilogue. It had a strong few pages to solidify The Watchmen and created even more intrigue and mystery!

In conclusion, if you haven’t read this comic, you should, now. I have put a link at the bottom of this blog that you can click and buy it for only $2.99 from Amazon/Comixology. That is an amazing price for a comic, and this is a very long one too. I’m not sure how many pages there was but it was probably twice or three times the size of a normal comic. Another great thing about buying it from there is you can read it immediately. No waiting for it to come in the mail! If I understand correctly DC is going to price all the comics across the board $2.99 now, which is amazing. In any case, here is the link to purchase your copy!

I do appreciate each and every one of the 27,000+ visitors that have came and read my blog though! Which ones are you excited about?
