4/30/18 Blog Entry – Comics I’m reading \ Back to the Future: Tales from the Time Train \ Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II

Hey everyone!
I know, I know, I promised a garden update. But here’s the thing….it has rained for days and days in a row and it’s been a struggle here on the homestead to get anything done outside. The most I have managed to get done after the one pretty day we planted flowers was picking up some scrap wood that I plan to tear apart and pile up to use to build some rabbit hutches and a chicken house. We also have to start thinking about getting a goat barn built because our baby goat is set to arrive in mid-June!

We have someone coming Thursday to pick up Butterscotch, one of our female Guinea Pigs. We decided to sell that one. We do intend to breed the other two females as soon as we find a male. But the Guinea Pigs are doing great, they are as tame and playful and eating as much as ever! We have tried several different kinds of snacks, hay and stuff. I will do a blog with more info on our Guinea Pigs and how we take care of them soon. And as our farm grows with goats, rabbits and chickens you all will be taken along for the ride!

In the meantime, check out the comics I have been reading during these rainy days.

Stanley Artgerm Lau Variant Cover B
Release Date: 2/28/18
Cover Price: $4.49
Purchased from: Midtown Comics
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Thoughts:  Not a bad issue. I don’t really know what I expected but it seemed to fall short. I don’t hate it, and I will for sure read another couple of issues (I’ve already bought them). I hope it turns into a story I enjoy. It has the potential to do so.
Justice League of America #26

Thoughts:  I was excited to see this new story line and it wasn’t horrible. I was a bit disappointed  with the pacing as it seemed a bit rushed but overall I think I’m going to enjoy it.
Justice League of America #28
Francesco Mattina Variant Cover B
Release Date: 4/11/18
Cover Price: $2.99
Purchased from: Midtown Comics
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Thoughts:  Carrying on the story from the previous issue this story stayed right on track. I’m still not LOVING it but it’s a decent story right now.
Dark Nights Metal #6
Andy Kubert Variant Cover C
Release Date: 3/28/18
Cover Price: $4.99
Purchased from: Midtown Comics
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Thoughts:  I didn’t hate the issue but it seemed to rush to the end. All the build up and world changing battles and it ended so sparsely.  The epilogue really hints that big things are coming but I’m not as excited as I should be and doubt I will pick it up in May.

That’s it for today! I have been reading comics mostly for the past couple of days. Ready Player One novel is still sitting in my read pile, I’m about 3/4 of the way through. I am not watching the movie until I finish the book. In any case, stay tuned, a garden update is next! We did some cool stuff today (4/21) in the garden and will show pics in the next blog!

This was a fantastic box this month with some awesome items! Check out the video and watch us open it up and show everything inside!

Thanks for watching and reading guys! Out of this box Vanessa and I ended up agreeing that the Suicide Squad Rebirth #1 was the beez kneez out of this box! In other news I just read Suicide Squad Rebirth #1! It was written by Rob Williams with art by Jonathan Glapion and Philip Tan and they do an exceptional job introducing this franchise! I really enjoyed the art, I enjoyed the story and I think it was a great way to kick off the book! We meet a lot of the major players and get a background story while STILL getting a real story that is entertaining! Overall I think it was a great read!

Batman (2016) #3 – DC Universe Rebirth

cover 2

It’s that time again! The third issue of Batman is out and we are going to dive in! This issue was written by Tom King, Drawn by David Finch and inked by Danny Miki. Thanks for joining me today for this blog, I hope you enjoy my thoughts. I am going to read it and blog about it as I read it. I seem to enjoy that type of blogging better. So here goes!

First thing is in researching the different covers I did fall in love with the Variant! Very nicely done! Jumping right into the story now. So the story starts out with what seems to be a Bruce Wayne losing his parents flashback. The story is written in such a way they are saying that the people of Gotham are a part of Gotham. Then we find out this is not young Bruce, just another situation that was similar. Except, this time, Batman is there to stop it and say NO. Fantastic introduction to the issue! Let’s keep going…

We then get into what seems to be a Gotham and Gotham Girl origin story. I loved the way the writer led us into this origin story without it feeling forced. We found out (in theory) that Gotham and Gotham Girl (his sister) came about because Batman saved them when they were young. It was the boy from the original scene in the issue. We then cut to another ‘the monster men are coming’ segment as Batman races to save a bridge that is collapsing. We soon see Gotham calling Gotham Girl Claire and her calling him Hank. The same names previously mentioned. We, after some story, see Hugo Strange saying he is not Gotham. Then Batman goes off to follow leads and Gotham and Gotham Girl fall right into Hugo Strange’s trap. He has The Psycho-Pirate (Roger Hayden) with him!

That’s the end of the issue and it was a great one! Make sure to check it out if you haven’t already! Thanks for hanging out with me today!

DC Universe Rebirth #1 (One Shot)

RebirthI decided today to jump on into Rebirth. I’m not sure to what extent I am going to immerse myself yet but I decided to start at what seemed to be a good starting point. The one shot DC Universe Rebirth. This comic was released on May 25th, 2016 and was written by Geoff Johns. I have been excited to see what this had in store for DC for quite some time but haven’t jumped in until today. So let’s jump in.

I jumped right into the pages and was almost immediately greeted by Superman, Batman and quickly after that The Flash. I was immediately impressed by the artwork of Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Gary Frank and Phil Jimenez. I quickly gobbled up Chapter 1: Lost and was in love immediately. From the internal monologue of Wally West to the creativity of using the Flash Point was brilliant. I knew right then I was hooked already.

The second chapter just kept getting me deeper and deeper immersed into the story, or the Microverse. I don’t want to reveal too many spoilers in this particular blog but the story just keeps getting better page after page. I soon reached the end of Chapter 2, yearning for more! Chapter 2 was called ‘Legacy’.

Without slowing down I jumped head first into Chapter 3. And as quickly as it started chapter 3, titled ‘Love’, had ended. We got to see Aquaman in this chapter as well as Wally West finding Linda only to find out she didn’t remember him! So is he lost forever? What’s going on?! Let’s keep reading!

I jumped quickly into Chapter 4. I will say it straight up, chapter 4 actually hit at the heart strings. I thought Wally West was a goner and when Barry saved him it really made my eyes watery. And at the end of this chapter we get to see Batman again, we are learning more about the ‘forgotten’ time. The story is getting deep, The Watchmen. That’s all I will say about that for now, but THE WATCHMEN!

Then I quickly (and sadly) jumped into the Epilogue. It had a strong few pages to solidify The Watchmen and created even more intrigue and mystery!

In conclusion, if you haven’t read this comic, you should, now. I have put a link at the bottom of this blog that you can click and buy it for only $2.99 from Amazon/Comixology. That is an amazing price for a comic, and this is a very long one too. I’m not sure how many pages there was but it was probably twice or three times the size of a normal comic. Another great thing about buying it from there is you can read it immediately. No waiting for it to come in the mail! If I understand correctly DC is going to price all the comics across the board $2.99 now, which is amazing. In any case, here is the link to purchase your copy!

Lego Dimensions – Part 6

LDToday we got another batch of figures in for Lego Dimensions! We got Aquaman and the Jurrasic World team set! We dove in as soon as we got home from work and got all the new items built and immediately jumped into the Jurrasic World Adventure World. We played around in there and got several gold bricks, picked up the red brick and did some exploring. It’s a beautiful world and I love the Raptor! As it stands we have still only 100% on one level, the Wizard of Oz Level on the main story. I wanted to try to get 100% on another level tonight but Vanessa was sleepy so we decided to just stick to adventure worlds and getting gold bricks for the evening.

Also, we did get a display case for the character figures today to help organize the growing collection and I have to admit it does look quite awesome displayed!

News: DC Comics Rebirth

I thought I would put a list of, from my understanding, the titles that will be available during the 2 year ‘Rebirth’ of the DC Universe and alongside that put if I plan to read them. This serves as both news (in case you’re looking to find out what titles have been announced as of this blog) as well as an opinion article. So here goes:

By my count that is 27 titles they plan to have during the 2-year Rebirth. I do see I put will read or probably will read quite a bit on there. With that many titles I may have to start a donation thing so I can buy all those and blog about them! 😉 I hear Patreon is great for bloggers but I haven’t really looked into it. I do appreciate each and every one of the 27,000+ visitors that have came and read my blog though! Which ones are you excited about?

News: Allstar Batman will be written by Scott Snyder!

I know I am a couple days late to the party but I just now found out that Scott Snyder will be writing the new Allstar Batman twice monthly comic that is going to be part of the main continuity! This is in no relation to Allstar Batman and Robin apparently. He will also be joined by the great John Romita Jr!

That’s it, I just wanted to make a quick blog about it so you guys would know if you’re a fan of Batman and/or what Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo did on their run! In any case, keep an eye for this one!

I personally am a huge Batman fan and really enjoyed Snyder’s run on it so to see he got this one is very exciting to me.
