Batman (2016) #3 – DC Universe Rebirth

cover 2

It’s that time again! The third issue of Batman is out and we are going to dive in! This issue was written by Tom King, Drawn by David Finch and inked by Danny Miki. Thanks for joining me today for this blog, I hope you enjoy my thoughts. I am going to read it and blog about it as I read it. I seem to enjoy that type of blogging better. So here goes!

First thing is in researching the different covers I did fall in love with the Variant! Very nicely done! Jumping right into the story now. So the story starts out with what seems to be a Bruce Wayne losing his parents flashback. The story is written in such a way they are saying that the people of Gotham are a part of Gotham. Then we find out this is not young Bruce, just another situation that was similar. Except, this time, Batman is there to stop it and say NO. Fantastic introduction to the issue! Let’s keep going…

We then get into what seems to be a Gotham and Gotham Girl origin story. I loved the way the writer led us into this origin story without it feeling forced. We found out (in theory) that Gotham and Gotham Girl (his sister) came about because Batman saved them when they were young. It was the boy from the original scene in the issue. We then cut to another ‘the monster men are coming’ segment as Batman races to save a bridge that is collapsing. We soon see Gotham calling Gotham Girl Claire and her calling him Hank. The same names previously mentioned. We, after some story, see Hugo Strange saying he is not Gotham. Then Batman goes off to follow leads and Gotham and Gotham Girl fall right into Hugo Strange’s trap. He has The Psycho-Pirate (Roger Hayden) with him!

That’s the end of the issue and it was a great one! Make sure to check it out if you haven’t already! Thanks for hanging out with me today!

Batman (2016) #2 – DC Universe Rebirth

Batman rebirth 2It’s that time again! Today we are going to jump into issue two of Batman: Rebirth! Right off the bat (no pun intended) I was drawn in by the cover of this issue! I am Gotham Part 2. This issue was written by Tom King with pencils by David Finch. Let’s get started…

The Issue starts out with a battle between Solomon Grundy and Gotham, Gotham Girl and Batman. The scene lasted a few pages and was concluded with Batman making a clever joke. It was a nice little series of pages and a nice action scene. Batman has apparently been observing Gotham and Gotham girl from a distance and told Gotham that he was doing good, but to do better. Gotham then goes on to ask Batman for guidance on how to ‘fight the war better’. We then cut to a Bruce and Alfred scene that was quite entertaining. Making a joke that he was shocked when Bruce was talking about Gotham was in chaos. Quite funny, nice writing!

Next we cut to a scene with Gordon and the person that claims he was the one that set free Solomon Grundy. I can’t pinpoint why but this page’s art really draws (no pun intended again) me in, I am loving it! The person then identifies himself as Bob Castro (should I know who this is?). I don’t guess it matters because a page later he plunges a knife into his neck as he announces to Gordon that ‘the monster men are coming, aren’t they strange?’. I have no idea what this means but I am very intrigued. Bob Castro apparently thought that releasing Solomon Grundy was the only chance we had against the ‘monster men’.

Back to Bruce Wayne as he is dancing with a lady and then abruptly decides he has to go (after seeing the Bat Signal out the window). Very nice art on this page as well. He tells Alfred that he is going to bring Gotham and Gotham Girl with him to meet Gordon this time. We then get a very nicely done splash page of Gordon, Gotham and Gotham Girl which made me very happy. After being introduced Jim makes a joke in which he asks ‘is it really easier to fight crime with a mask on?’. He says he thinks it’d itch. A couple pages later, after Jim explains what happened with Bob in his office, Batman does his notorious disappearing act and Gotham asks where he went to which Jim of course replied ‘yeah, he does that’. Gotham is confused because with his special vision he can ‘see everything’ but can’t seem to see Batman. Jim welcome them to the team.

We then cut to a scene that reveals Hugo Strange talking to Roger!

Alright guys, that’s it for this issue! I would say this was a very entertaining issue as well! Make sure to head over to the link below and purchase your digital copy so you can read it now! Let me know what you think!

Batman (2016) #1 – DC Universe Rebirth

Batman1Yea, I got hooked. After finishing Batman: Rebirth #1 I wanted to jump right into Batman #1 to see what this series had in store for me! I decided I would go ahead and blog about this one too and release it just a bit after the blog about Batman: Rebirth releases. So let’s jump right in!

This issue is written by Tom King with art by Matt Banning, David Finch and was released on June June 15th, 2016. ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, we are beginning our final descent into Gotham’. That is how we start the issue! Along with that we are greeted with some fantastic art as well!

The story is about a group of people on a plane that was hit by apparently an rpg type weapon that was stolen from Gordon. They hit the plane and are on the way into the city to hit a building which would lead to all those aboard’s demise but also many of those on the ground. We see the people on the plane complaining that they are in Gotham therefore they won’t be saved by a Superman or a Green Lantern. All the while, Batman is on the top of the plane making decisions to save the people. They are quoted as saying ‘a city gets the hero it deserves’. Batman finds a way to save everyone, the problem though, is that he has to sacrifice himself to make sure it happens. He has a very heartfelt talk with Alfred and we hang on as the plane heads toward the water for impact, which would certainly kill him. Before he hits the water though, we see someone in silhouette standing over whom we assume to be the one that shot down the plane. I have no idea how it was! Anyway, back to the plane story. So the plane is only feet from hitting the water when we see two caped people underneath the plane, lifting it up, saved all the people and Bruce as well! Brush immediately says ‘Clark…’, thinking it’s Superman, just as I did. But it wasn’t. We are introduced to Gotham and Gotham girl. They go on to tell Bruce that Gotham is THEIR city and they are going to protect it. The issue ended on this strong note! I have to say, I was very impressed with this issue, very good!

In conclusion, this was an AMAZING issue, you should grab it now and read it! As always, the link below allows you to grab it for only $2.99 and read it digitally instantly via Amazon/Comixology! This also helps support my blog to make sure I can keep bringing these reviews to you! Thanks for hanging out with me today!

What I have read so far:
Batman #1
Batman: Rebirth #1
DC Universe Rebirth #1

Batman: Rebirth #1

BM Rebirth 1After reading the one shot DC Universe Rebirth I had a decision to make. I had to decide which book I would jump into immediately right after that. I went back and forth for a bit but settled on Batman: Rebirth #1 as my next adventure into Rebirth. This comic is written by Scott Snyder & Tom King with art by Mikel Janin and was released on June 1st, 2016. Let’s get started.

So I was still in bliss after just finishing DC Universe Rebirth and wanted to take a few before I started Batman: Rebirth #1 but I just couldn’t help myself. Vanessa was painting and Zack was playing Minecraft so I just ran and took a quick break and headed straight back and started in on the comic.

Only a few pages in we see Bruce hanging by one hand, many stories up, in 137 degree temps in Gotham while talking to Lucius. That’s what I call dedication to training right there. The art is doing a very nice job of keeping me captivated and the writing is very nicely done as well. I got about halfway into the issue when a big reveal was made, Batman is ‘trying something new’ when it comes to a sidekick type situation. He then revealed what seemed to be a new Batman suit. Are we going to have two Batmen? Before I knew it I had reached the end of the issue. We got to see the aforementioned suit in a action just a bit and got a clever line by Batman before the issue ended. I was very impressed by the Winter pages art, very nicely done.

Overall I think this was a very interesting issue! Make sure to pick it up with the link below for only $2.99 and read it instantly on Amazon/Comixology!

What I have read so far:
Batman: Rebirth #1
DC Universe: Rebirth #1

DC Universe Rebirth #1 (One Shot)

RebirthI decided today to jump on into Rebirth. I’m not sure to what extent I am going to immerse myself yet but I decided to start at what seemed to be a good starting point. The one shot DC Universe Rebirth. This comic was released on May 25th, 2016 and was written by Geoff Johns. I have been excited to see what this had in store for DC for quite some time but haven’t jumped in until today. So let’s jump in.

I jumped right into the pages and was almost immediately greeted by Superman, Batman and quickly after that The Flash. I was immediately impressed by the artwork of Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Gary Frank and Phil Jimenez. I quickly gobbled up Chapter 1: Lost and was in love immediately. From the internal monologue of Wally West to the creativity of using the Flash Point was brilliant. I knew right then I was hooked already.

The second chapter just kept getting me deeper and deeper immersed into the story, or the Microverse. I don’t want to reveal too many spoilers in this particular blog but the story just keeps getting better page after page. I soon reached the end of Chapter 2, yearning for more! Chapter 2 was called ‘Legacy’.

Without slowing down I jumped head first into Chapter 3. And as quickly as it started chapter 3, titled ‘Love’, had ended. We got to see Aquaman in this chapter as well as Wally West finding Linda only to find out she didn’t remember him! So is he lost forever? What’s going on?! Let’s keep reading!

I jumped quickly into Chapter 4. I will say it straight up, chapter 4 actually hit at the heart strings. I thought Wally West was a goner and when Barry saved him it really made my eyes watery. And at the end of this chapter we get to see Batman again, we are learning more about the ‘forgotten’ time. The story is getting deep, The Watchmen. That’s all I will say about that for now, but THE WATCHMEN!

Then I quickly (and sadly) jumped into the Epilogue. It had a strong few pages to solidify The Watchmen and created even more intrigue and mystery!

In conclusion, if you haven’t read this comic, you should, now. I have put a link at the bottom of this blog that you can click and buy it for only $2.99 from Amazon/Comixology. That is an amazing price for a comic, and this is a very long one too. I’m not sure how many pages there was but it was probably twice or three times the size of a normal comic. Another great thing about buying it from there is you can read it immediately. No waiting for it to come in the mail! If I understand correctly DC is going to price all the comics across the board $2.99 now, which is amazing. In any case, here is the link to purchase your copy!

Lego Dimensions – Part 6

LDToday we got another batch of figures in for Lego Dimensions! We got Aquaman and the Jurrasic World team set! We dove in as soon as we got home from work and got all the new items built and immediately jumped into the Jurrasic World Adventure World. We played around in there and got several gold bricks, picked up the red brick and did some exploring. It’s a beautiful world and I love the Raptor! As it stands we have still only 100% on one level, the Wizard of Oz Level on the main story. I wanted to try to get 100% on another level tonight but Vanessa was sleepy so we decided to just stick to adventure worlds and getting gold bricks for the evening.

Also, we did get a display case for the character figures today to help organize the growing collection and I have to admit it does look quite awesome displayed!

Lego Dimensions – Part 5

LDToday we did make a couple of awesome advances. First and foremost we DID achieve the 1,000,000 studs and get the 2x stud multiplier! I was very excited about that. After that we did get some more additions to the collection in the mail today. We got Bart Simpson fun pack, Doc from Back to the Future fun pack and Emmet from Lego World. I also did contact Lego and they are sending me a replacement base for the Back to the Future level pack that was torn up. It was very hassle-free to get it replaced which made me very happy! I am impatient so I hate having to wait for it but it’s worth it. We did get Bart and his car built in today’s playing. Then we jumped right into the Simpson’s Adventure World (since we don’t have the level pack yet). We did some of the construction, got the red brick and got some gold bricks. We also did build Emmet’s Excavator as well! The collection has grown nicely!

After we done that for a while (and it getting close to bedtime because of work for us both) we decided to go ahead and build Doc’s Traveling Time Train as well.  We went into the Back to the Future Adventure World and played around a bit and got the red brick and a gold brick or two. Fun times!

News: DC Comics Rebirth

I thought I would put a list of, from my understanding, the titles that will be available during the 2 year ‘Rebirth’ of the DC Universe and alongside that put if I plan to read them. This serves as both news (in case you’re looking to find out what titles have been announced as of this blog) as well as an opinion article. So here goes:

Batgirl and Birds of Prey – Yes, will read

By my count that is 27 titles they plan to have during the 2-year Rebirth. I do see I put will read or probably will read quite a bit on there. With that many titles I may have to start a donation thing so I can buy all those and blog about them! 😉 I hear Patreon is great for bloggers but I haven’t really looked into it. I do appreciate each and every one of the 27,000+ visitors that have came and read my blog though! Which ones are you excited about?

Lego Dimensions – Part 4

LDIn today’s installment of Lego Dimensions I am going to include a short little video of our collection so far (minus the starting 3 characters and portal). It’s not in fantastic quality but it gets the point across so you can kinda see what we have.

A few other notes, we did play around much more in the Adventure worlds and we also did beat the Ghostbusters level pack today as well! I think that level pack is my favorite to date thus far. We also got the Back to the Future level pack today, sadly, one of the toy tags in the pack was messed up so we couldn’t finish the level until I can contact Lego and get it replaced. This is the first encounter we have had with defective items so I’m not too upset about it. But what we played of it up until that build was awesome. And we did also add the Scooby and Shaggy fun pack to the collection today as well and played around in that Adventure World after building Shaggy, Scooby, Mystery Machine and the Scooby Snack. I really have enjoyed that one as well. We did venture into the Wizard of Oz level in the main story mode again to farm some studs in an effort to hurry and use the 1,000,000 red brick to get 2x studs. As of this blog we hadn’t quite made it yet but hopefully in the next blog that will change. After that I think we are going to start trying to upgrade more vehicles as we wait for more additions to arrive! We did, however get ALL the minikits, rescue the Wizard of Oz and get RuleBreaker on this level! So we have everything done on it!

This has been an exciting (and expensive lol) adventure into Lego Dimensions but we as a family are having a blast! We may have to start taking donations to finish up all the collections! Ha! I have been ignoring all the other games I was working on for this one for the past 4 days now so that shows that it has been exceptional. Anyway, on to the video, check out the collection so far! If anyone wants to contribute a Portal Level Pack I would happily thank you by name in the blog and put a video or pictures of the unboxing in the blog as well. Just in case. That seems to be the hardest one to find unless you have it at a local store (which ours doesn’t).

Lego Dimensions – Part 3

LDBetween yesterday and today I think we (Vanessa, Zack and I) have put in about 15-18 hours into this game. I have to admit it’s an incredible journey that the entire family is enjoying! We have upgraded the Batmobile to the 3rd level and have it all the way there except the last one. We have also upgraded the Tardis to level 2. I will eventually post some pictures of the builds when they are all leveled out. A couple of the things I have really enjoyed in this is the small things, such as Doctor Who changing appearance each time he is killed. Just the little things. The music is phenomenal.

To the point though, we beat the main story mode  today and we starting playing around in the adventure worlds.  We also replayed the Wizard of Oz part of the main story and it was amazing how much stuff we missed in the first run through. I’m excited to add more characters and levels! In any case, such a fun time and so much more to do!
