The Short Drop, a novel by Matthew FitzSimmons

The Short Drop LogoI just finished reading this novel last night after about 2-3 weeks of reading a little at night before sleep. The novel is very appealing to anyone that enjoys the crime, technology and mystery genre. I will give a rough breakdown of the story from my eyes and then give my thoughts on it. So let’s get started…

The story is about a couple of families that are in the political scene. Early on we learn that a girl has been kidnapped and it’s been over ten years and she has never been found. The missing girl is rekindled on the 10 year anniversary of her missing and our main character is contacted by a contracted group to help find the girl based on new information. The main character, Gibson, was sent to the military in lieu of jail time as a young adult for hacking and now he was being contracted to basically hack again to help find the girl. After many trials, fights and tribulations, hints and following clues it builds to it’s climax. I won’t spoil the ending in the blog but it does end differently than one would have expected. That being said, let’s get into my thoughts of it…

I loved this novel, it’s one of the better books I have read in a while. I love the pacing, I found myself wanting to read more than I had planned on reading that night on many occasions. The author paints a very good picture of the story, makes it mysterious enough to keep you captivated without being annoying but gives you enough clues to keep you engaged in the story. He makes you care about the characters and their well-being. Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone that’s a fan of this genre, it’s definitely worth the read! I picked it up via the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library as part of our Amazon Prime membership. So grab a cup of coffee and get this book, settle in and enjoy!
