Thanksgiving – What are your traditions?

It’s that time of year, the time of year where we stuff our faces, sit on our butts and watch football with the family all the while letting each other know what we are thankful for. I don’t really have anything witty to do for this blog but I wanted to do a quick one just to tell everyone that reads my blog Happy Thanksgiving! I know, personally, I love smelling the smell that fills the house on the day you do your cooking (be it on Thanksgiving or before, or after, we are doing ours Wednesday because of work but it’s the same Holiday regardless of when you celebrate it)! Right now my house smells of turkey cooking in the over, pies that were baked last night. Delicious. Thanksgiving morning/day is Macy’s Parade time then football, today is all about the family, food and Dan Gheesling playing Fallout 4 Youtube Videos! Earlier today I let our son pick out the present he wanted to get Mom for Christmas and we got that on order, he picked a very cool piece of art for her, I think she’ll love it! I’m debating on when to put up the Christmas tree this year, typically it’s the day after Thanksgiving but we both have long work days that day, so not sure yet. I don’t know if I want to get into putting pictures of food and stuff in these blogs, it may be cool but at the same time some people hate it. So I haven’t decided YET, but if I do decide to start using pics and stuff in blogs and you don’t like it, just ignore it, if you do like it then enjoy it!

Among many things, such as my family, friends which I won’t name individually but know that if you fall into this category I am very thankful for each and every one of you! There are A LOT of people that I miss dearly this Thanksgiving but I’m sure they are celebrating and thinking about us as we celebrate and think about them, it’s a beautiful thing. And I am thankful for all of you that read my blog as well. Since it started it now has over 4,000 views, which is phenomenal considering I am boring as crap. In any case, spend time with those you love, enjoy some fantastic food and some fantastic football (the Panthers play the Cowboys) and then watch some awesome TV, play some awesome video games and share that love with your friends and family!

Scream Queens – Season 1 Episodes 1-9

So in today’s blog I wanted to talk about one of my favorite new series on TV right now….Scream Queens. A show that I did NOT expect to like as much as I do. We are nine episodes in and have four episodes to go in this season so I wanted to do a quick blog to share my thoughts thus far. This blog is releasing just a few hours before episode 10 airs. But here are my thoughts so far…

So this started out beautifully, the not-so politically correct humor made it so fun to watch that I was instantly drawn in. Then, I realized the story I was watching develop was a great one! It does follow the guidelines of one of my favorite horror movies of all time, Scream, in that you are left guessing who the killer is constantly. And I love the way that is accomplished in this show! From the first episode I have been making guesses, arguing with friends who the killer might be and then changing my mind based on new info! So, kudos to you writers! There are only 4 episodes left in this season and I still only know for sure the two killers that have been revealed, the third killer I still don’t know. I have heard many guesses and have a guess myself but I really don’t have anything to back it up except hunches. And this is a great thing! When a story leaves you guessing this long into the arc it’s a good sign they have written it well! The corny, raunchy and down-right hilarious jokes littered throughout the series are incredible. There isn’t really anything about this show that I don’t like, except I can’t figure out how they will do a second season unless each season is a stand-alone story, or structured like American Horror Story, which I wouldn’t be opposed to.

So yes, watch this show if you haven’t!

The Walking Dead Season 6, Episode 7

This is the episode before the mid-season finale and I was very excited to see what direction the story went for the first half of the season to lead into the second half!

Well, I guess that answers the question about Glenn. I guess it makes sense since the rumor is that Negan is on the way, so they need to save Glenn for that heartbreaking scene.  Here is my thoughts on the whole situation. The death of Glenn in the comic is so iconic that I’m afraid that is ruined now in the show, since they faked it. So here’s what I would do, if I were the writer. I would flip the script. I would put Daryl in Glenn’s place with Negan, have him kill of Daryl. That way, it will be as iconic as in the comic because Daryl is a beloved character in the show, non-existant in the comic and would have the the same shock  value as far as iconic goes in the show as it was in the comic. Or at least close. To me, that’s the only way out at this point. You have fake killed Glenn at this point so the huge initial shock of his death at Negan’s hand is gone. So do something no one would expect to really make it iconic. Oh, and we get to keep Glenn in my scenario! I’m not going to speculate or discuss Enid at the moment.

Maggie, I loved her character in the beginning, but for the past few episodes her fake southern accent is becoming very distracting. I hope they figure out what’s causing that and get it under control before it makes her character too annoying to like anymore.

Morgan, even in this state, is still in the top tier as one of my favorite characters on the show. I am biased, I know, because of his role in the show Jericho, I have loved everything he has done. I sincerely hope they keep him in the main character role and use him more and more in some way.

The best quote of the night, “The people around you dying, that’s the hard part.” The best commercial during the show, the Fallout 4 commercial of course! What’s with the blood going through the walls? I have no idea. No clue.

I did quite like the interaction between Glenn and Enid in this episode. Sure, she did pull a gun on him but it all worked out for the best…so far. The dialogue was good, the scenes were good. The two had good presence on the screen together. I think that segment was a win! Not that they are friends or anything, just good presence.

Overall, I think this episode was good. I am not sure how I feel about the whole Glenn situation still, the feelings still aren’t processed. But overall, I think it was a successful episode.

Fallout 4 — Early Thoughts

Needless to say, I was one of the millions that was so excited for the Fallout 4 release I was counting down the hours. I pre-ordered my copy from Amazon and it was delivered safely on release day. When I opened the package, before I even installed the game, I looked at the cool poster that came with it. I got it for the Xbox One so I also got a download of Fallout 3 for free, which I was very excited about. I haven’t played 3 yet so no spoilers! So yea, I thought I would take a minute, since I have several hours invested into it at this point, not too many but several.

First, let me say, I LOVE it. It’s a truly beautiful game. The graphics are amazing, the story line, so far, is phenomenal. I liked the character design element, I liked the intro to the world. So anyway, the game started and as soon as I got out of the vault I immediately started the exploring, which I am certain a large number of people did! I did that for a while, found some stuff then decided to progress the story. I did so and then got to the point where you can build stuff. As soon as I started messing with that I spent a lot of time playing around with that before I realized I should probably do some more quests and progress the story. I have done several quests and helped stabilize several places so far. I have, not once, got bored with the game while I was playing it. It stays fresh and exciting. I really just wanted to do a quick blog to express my thoughts thus far, before I got too far in.

Overall, amazing, that’s the best word to describe it. There are tons of videos on Youtube, twitch and other places you can watch some of the gameplay. Even if you don’t want to buy it and play it, it’s a fun game to watch someone else play!

The Walking Dead Season 6 Episodes 4, 5 & 6

I got a bit behind in my blogs about The Walking Dead so I am just going to clump all these episodes together and kind of summarize my thoughts about them overall.

So far we still don’t know if Glenn is truly dead, undead or not. We did get a little of cliff hanger on Episode 6 when we heard someone’s voice on the walkie talkie saying help. Everyone that voted on Talking Dead seemed to think that was Glenn’s voice, but I am unsure. Daryl has apparently given up his crossbow and his bike, which I think maybe it was time to sort of revitalize his character anyway, so that could be a good start. I LOVED the way they they did the Morgan episode, some say it was slow and/or boring but I think it was fantastic. And it doesn’t make me dislike Morgan’s character in the slightest, in fact, I think I like it more. And what is the deal with the blood running down the wall in Alexandria?! I guess we will have to wait to find that out!

There are only two episodes left before the half season break this year and there are a lot of things going on, I am very excited to see how they kind of wrap it up for the mid-season finale!

Predictions: I still think that we will find out Glenn was rescued/captured by the Wolves or some other new introduction group as I think the Alexandria story line has almost served it’s purpose for now. I’m not saying they will be leaving Alexandria anytime soon, I am simply saying that I think soon another part of the story will be revealed. For those that have read the comic, you know what I am referring to. No spoilers since it’s just my prediction anyway.

The Man In The High Castle – Season 1 Episode 1 & 2

The Man in the High Castle is an original Series that’s available on Amazon Prime. I was searching for something new to watch and honestly just stumbled upon this series, and boy am I glad I did! The basic idea, from my understanding thus far, is this story is set in a different future than we are in, the Nazi army won World War 2 and this story is set in that reality. Japan controls one part of the US, there is a neutral zone and the Nazis have the other part. The story, so far, is centralized around a few main characters. The writers have done a great job in just two episodes of making you care about what happens to the characters. The writing is very well done, the actors are doing a splendid job and it’s an overall fantastic experience so far!

More good news, the rest (I assume) of season 1 came out on Prime today! So that means some binge watching is in order! If you like things based on history, alternate forms of history, war type settings and a good, solid drama then I suggest you watch this series!

Halloween – Then and now

So in the spirit of the season I figured I would do a little blog about Halloween and how it’s changed, in my opinion, over time. Being in my 30’s now (wow) I look back at Halloween as a time when you started right before dark and you went to little communities and you walked from house to house collecting candy. The parents typically sat in the car and waited on you to get back from your walking adventures. There was such a sense of accomplishment as a kid for doing this, you were getting candy, which was awesome, you were doing something on your own, awesome and you were having fun doing it. I’m sure it wasn’t the most safe thing in the world the way we did it but that’s how it was done! My how things have changed…

Now, having a 7 year old, I see how trick or treating is done and it really breaks my heart. Basically they go walk through town, in daytime and perhaps pop into a large store to get candy. No after dark, freezing in your costume adventures to speak of. Now, I know the world is a dangerous place, and I do understand why this has changed. It’s just a sad state that people have to worry about their kids being safe to go get and eat candy that they live in the same town as once a year. I mean, come on (to quote Jimmy from South Park). Are people so evil nowadays that no one can do anything fun anymore without that constant threat? I guess, considering the things that happen nowadays, the answer is no. But it truly is heart breaking to know that.

That being said, Halloween CAN still be fun! We don’t have to let it focus on trick or treating. Buy a bang of candy, have a family night where everyone sits around and eats candy in the dark and watches either scary movies or Halloween classic movies depending on the age bracket and taste of the family. That can be as fun as trick or treating! Heck, even have some family and friends come over and join in on it and make a night of it! Not the same thrill as trick or treating but in life the key is to adapt. Find a way to make Halloween fun again, find a way to keep it safe and adapt that to make your own family traditions!

Everyone have a happy and safe Halloween!

The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 3

Wow, what in the world is going on!? This episode of The Walking Dead is so intense I don’t even know how to start my blog at this point! But let’s get right into it, please note, this blog WILL contain very important spoilers so if you haven’t watched this episode DO NOT READ ON! If you have, then read on and enjoy!

Let me start by saying this, I don’t know if it’s true or not but if they have killed off Glenn this way I tip my hat to the writers. Here is why: As most of you know, in the comic Glenn was not killed by zombies and instead was killed in a very important series of events by Lucille (if you want to know who this is and don’t know then read the comics fool!). To have him be killed by zombies in this fashion doesn’t seem as climatic but it did serve the purpose, and served it well. Because I don’t think ANYONE was expecting it. That being said, do I hope he isn’t dead? Yes, I do. But if he isn’t I am almost afraid it will seem like a cop out unless they do it just right. I do have faith in the writers of The Walking Dead so I do believe if they are going to keep him alive for now they made the right decision to make that happen. I have a theory of how they could do it that it wouldn’t seem like a cop out and may work to the benefit of the story, I will explain that below. But first, I do have to say if they keep him dead in this fashion then I won’t be mad. It does make the story better, it keeps it fresh. I do love Glenn’s character and he will be missed but with the world in The Walking Dead it IS going to happen, a lot, and to anyone there.

Now, my idea of how they can keep Glenn alive without it seeming like a cop out. Let the Wolves save him. You may have just slanted your eyebrow and said ‘WHAT?’, but hear me out. You let a group of Wolves go in and save him from the herd (assuming he was protected and not bitten, or even IS bitten). They save him but at the same time they are ‘capturing’ him. So the fans get to keep Glenn alive, the story can benefit because the Wolves then can use hims as collateral to take over Alexandria and it serves as a catalyst to move the story forward into a new story line. It could even serve as a way to introduce some new characters (Negan anyone?). Do I know how a group of Wolves could pop in and save him from a herd that size? No, not really.

Okay, so in an effort to not make this blog ALL about Glenn, let’s discuss Rick for a moment. He is in a hell of a situation right now as well. Trapped, just had taken out a few Wolves, in an RV that won’t start. It seems he is in a lot of trouble. That said we do know (or assume) that Darryl is on the way to him and we all know Darryl is awesome. But there is something else, he did cut his hand and get zombie blood in it. We know everyone has the ‘virus’ inside them and will turn into a zombie upon death. But for us comic readers we know that zombie blood in a wound can do certain things, is that the case here? Are they really going to go that route with Rick? I guess we wait and see! Michonne was fantastic in this episode as well, the writers did an excellent job telling Glenn’s story through someone else the entire episode. They ALSO did an excellent job tying seasons together. When Glenn called Rick a dumbass, like he did in the first season when Rick was in the tank. Also we say Hershell’s pocket watch. So many little things that lead to big things that make this story so good.

In conclusion, amazing, this episode was amazing. If you read this and haven’t watched it, you know what happens to an extent, but STILL watch it. This is a great season so far! Way to step up the game writers, keep it up!

The Walking Dead Season 6 Episode 2

Yes, yes, I know, today another episode of The Walking Dead comes on. But I wanted to do at least a quick blog about my thoughts of episode 2. Why you may ask? Because it was so awesome I don’t want to combine it with another episode.

This episode gave us a bit of backstory on Enid, which was fantastic. It also gave us “JSS” (Just Survive Somehow), which quite frankly, is brilliant writing. I love how they gave us Enid’s backstory and how it perfectly fit into her persona that we know. This whole episode was a fantastic from start to finish. It was almost a way to showcase secondary characters, and boy did it ever showcase them well! The attack by The Wolves was very well done, the fighting back was brilliant, from Morgan’s style to Carol’s style, it was all well done.

In conclusion I must admit, this first two episodes are so well done I can’t wait to see more! This may be six seasons in but it all seems so fresh, which is EXACTLY what a series wants to accomplish! I hope that trend continues the whole season! If you haven’t watched it yet, do it!

New Episode of The Walking Dead tonight –

Silicon Valley Season 1 and 2

So a couple of days ago I finished watching all the episodes of Silicon Valley that are currently out, both seasons.  HBO did renew Silicon Valley for a 3rd season and I am very excited about that! In my opinion Silicon Valley is…well, first, let’s start with my rundown and thoughts from the beginning.

So I actually tried to watch this show a long while back and I simply didn’t get into it. But, I did finally download them from HBO GO on demand and decided to binge watch them. And I am glad I did. The show is focused around a group of ‘friends’ that work in the tech industry. Then one of them has an idea that everyone suddenly wants. From there it’s the trials and tribulations associated with taking a company from nothing to something and the steps in between. I have to admit this appealed to me a lot. The story is well written, the characters are very likable and quite honestly, it’s hilarious. There are so many small things that are funny that just make the show work it’s fun to watch just for those.

Another of the most impressive things about this series, while it is a comedy, it’s very intelligent and the character development works exactly how it’s supposed to. You hate who you’re supposed to hate and you’re rooting for who you’re supposed to root for, even when that person isn’t your typical main character. So to continue my thought from the beginning of the blog…

In my opinion Silicon Valley is well worth watching and probably one of the better shows on TV currently. I would highly recommend watching it.
