Blog Entry 5/6 – Fear The Walking Dead – Season (so far) review

Hello everyone and welcome back to ChrisCarp’s Rambles! Today we are going to talk about Fear The Walking Dead. I wanted to share my thoughts on the new season so far. So let’s jump in…

The first episode of the season, as expected, was very centered on Morgan and how he is planted into the show moving forward. Don’t get me wrong, I love Morgan, but I feel that they spent too much time on the first episode of Fear and the finale episode of The Walking Dead setting it up. That said, the first episode wasn’t bad but wasn’t anything special. I did like the introduction of the new characters and am excited to see how they are used.

The second episode was a bit more along the lines of what the show normally is. I really enjoyed the first part of the episode when they are showing life inside the walls with the farms.

As usual Nick’s character (and acting) is super annoying and I wish they’d leave him out of the show completely typically. The scene where he is driving out, however, was very well done and very relate-able and made me ALMOST like his character. I have no idea what is going on with the arrival of the people boarding the zombies and sitting there drinking. I do like the idea of this and the introduction of the new characters. I’m actually a bit more excited about this show than the original Walking Dead. The concept of what they do is very interesting. I really enjoy the direction of the show showing how life works in the walls. Turns out it was a flashback and then we move to Morgan again…

In the third episode of the season we see Nick destroying all the crops and burning them. I was a bit taken by surprise when we went back into a flashback sequence instead of present. But then it went back to present, thank goodness. I was very excited to see this first interaction!

The vehicle crash and first interactions between the newer characters and the old characters instantly drew my attention and I was very excited to see how it went. By the way, I am writing this review as I watch it live so it may be a bit scattered. I absolutely love the ton, and setting in this episode. The background noises, the whole thing is amazing. I may have said it before but I must say it again…I think this show is overtaking the original as far as interest by me. I really am enjoying the interaction between Nick and Morgan in this episode, which makes me happy because normally I don’t like interactions between Nick and anyone. Morgan showed him immediately just how bad-ass he was. The camera usage on this show does leave me wondering how hard/easy it is to get batteries in the apocalypse.  I have no idea what the hell Nick is trying to accomplish and wouldn’t even toss Morgan his stick. After punching him in his bum leg. This is why I can’t stand that character.

‘Because the truth matter’,  ‘The truth isn’t about words, it’s about what really happens’. This was my favorite line of quotes of the season so far. It was so meaningful and in depth. Very impressive writing. Too bad it went back to a scene with Nick after that. And then Morgan has to come save him, after all that. That’s why I love Morgan, but he should have just left him be for zombie food.

That being said I am excited to see where this interaction takes us.  ‘I don’t kill’ is Morgan’s reasoning for not leaving Nick for Walker food. I get it, but gah. Then we cut to more flashbacks.

Morgan not being at 100% is depressing but at the same time, his 50% is better than most characters anyway. I do have to admit the acting in this second half of the episode has really fallen off. But that’s okay, the story is still going amazingly so far. And the horn honking, annoying, but it’s an important element of the story so I get it. Sorry if this is running a bit long, I seem to review more in depth when I do live rather than a few days later. But again, these blogs will alternate between styles and topics as I feel like it. Anyway, the scene where they are pulling out the vehicle seems so off to me, why not start the thing and help the truck pull it out? If it won’t start then what’s the point in pulling it out to start with? Morgan’s talk with Nick is very well written. Wait….is Ann the one leaving the flags with the numbers? It makes me wonder after seeing the secret hiding place and the way it was labeled. Also, is Madison not alive anymore? It seems they are only using her in flashbacks and making it so we get the feels when we see her on screen. It makes me worry. Err, what. WHAT. Nick gets shot by Charlie!?! Oh, spoilers by the way. I don’t even….WOW. Holy crap. Wow! I can’t believe they are seemingly going to kill off Nick! They did it. WHAT, they did it! This is what The Walking Dead used to be! That caught me by complete surprise! Did they? I have no idea. I think so.

Alright that’s it for this blog. Thank you all for sticking in there with me and reading!

4/30/18 Blog Entry – Comics I’m reading \ Back to the Future: Tales from the Time Train \ Batman Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II

Hey everyone!
I know, I know, I promised a garden update. But here’s the thing….it has rained for days and days in a row and it’s been a struggle here on the homestead to get anything done outside. The most I have managed to get done after the one pretty day we planted flowers was picking up some scrap wood that I plan to tear apart and pile up to use to build some rabbit hutches and a chicken house. We also have to start thinking about getting a goat barn built because our baby goat is set to arrive in mid-June!

We have someone coming Thursday to pick up Butterscotch, one of our female Guinea Pigs. We decided to sell that one. We do intend to breed the other two females as soon as we find a male. But the Guinea Pigs are doing great, they are as tame and playful and eating as much as ever! We have tried several different kinds of snacks, hay and stuff. I will do a blog with more info on our Guinea Pigs and how we take care of them soon. And as our farm grows with goats, rabbits and chickens you all will be taken along for the ride!

In the meantime, check out the comics I have been reading during these rainy days.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Thoughts:  Not a bad issue. I don’t really know what I expected but it seemed to fall short. I don’t hate it, and I will for sure read another couple of issues (I’ve already bought them). I hope it turns into a story I enjoy. It has the potential to do so.

Justice League of America #28
Francesco Mattina Variant Cover B
Release Date: 4/11/18
Cover Price: $2.99
Purchased from: Midtown Comics
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Thoughts:  Carrying on the story from the previous issue this story stayed right on track. I’m still not LOVING it but it’s a decent story right now.
Dark Nights Metal #6
Andy Kubert Variant Cover C
Release Date: 3/28/18
Cover Price: $4.99
Purchased from: Midtown Comics
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Thoughts:  I didn’t hate the issue but it seemed to rush to the end. All the build up and world changing battles and it ended so sparsely.  The epilogue really hints that big things are coming but I’m not as excited as I should be and doubt I will pick it up in May.

That’s it for today! I have been reading comics mostly for the past couple of days. Ready Player One novel is still sitting in my read pile, I’m about 3/4 of the way through. I am not watching the movie until I finish the book. In any case, stay tuned, a garden update is next! We did some cool stuff today (4/21) in the garden and will show pics in the next blog!

The Walking Dead Season 8 Review

Season 8 just wrapped up on 4/15/2018 and I wanted to put down my opinions and thoughts about this season. Let me start by saying that I didn’t hate this season, I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it. The first half of the season was entertaining enough but the second half of the season sort of lost some steam in my eyes. I know they were hoping the death of Carl would have a lot of shock value and raise a lot of fur but it didn’t do it for me. Negan, while still entertaining at times, seems a bit overdone at this point. I’m also really not enjoying the ‘trash heap’ people and story-lines.  Also, they are severely over-playing their hand with Morgan. I do love the Morgan character but they are really pushing him too hard in the later episodes to prep him for the intro into Fear The Walking Dead.

So going into the finale episode I didn’t expect too much, nor did I really know what to expect at all. I didn’t know if they would wrap up the ‘war’ story line or if they’d just leave more hanging until next season like they have done before. Up until the finale episode the viewers has dropped steadily from 11 million viewers per episode to just over 6 million. Which is consistently lower than any other season. Anyway, back to the finale episode… I was overall pretty upset with the finale episode. It was pretty flat to be a finale. I didn’t like the set up with Maggie, Jesus and Daryl. The Negan scene was week and a bit lame. Just overall not very happy with it. This is a story for another blog but I was quite happy with the premiere of Season 4 of Fear The Walking Dead.

Loot Crate July 2017 – Animation

Hello fellow Looters! Today we got the July Loot Crate box in the mail, which is titled ‘Animation’ and we were excited to see what was inside! We knew there was supposed to be some Bob’s Burgers stuff in there. So we got the ol’ trusty box opener and took a peep inside. Here is what we found:
The box was Bob’s Burgers oriented, which made me very happy! You can see what all was inside except the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle shirt which I forgot to include in the picture. The Rick toy was very nice, I do like this month’s pin as well. The Futurama cozies seemed mostly like filler honestly. And the Bob’s Burger item is recipe cards which I already had in the hard cover book I got from Amazon a while back.

Overall, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad box, but to us it was a bit of a disappointment. If we didn’t already have the Bob’s Burger recipe book then I guess I would have liked it better.  The chalk board on the box allows you to put one of the cards in and hang it up as well as the cards having nice art on the back so it’s not too bad.

If you get your own Loot Crate make sure to use this link:

Welcome Back to Tiki Isles!

If you are following this series you know that the last blog mentioned that we spent a large amount of time doing a bunch of stuff and ended up losing it all because we didn’t save…. We took a bit of a break (because Vanessa was pretty pissed that we lost all that work) and decided to jump back in today!

Our main goal today was to basically get us back to where we were when we had the crash and lost it all. We were focusing on trying to get rid of as many industrial areas and replace them with office areas and buying some new plots of land.

What did we accomplish?

We did end up achieving what we set out to do. We bought four new plots of land but haven’t really started on anything on it yet. We did get rid of the majority of the industrial areas and we did some road upgrades. We also spent some time fixing our bus routes. Overall I think we got back about where or maybe a bit better than we were before the crash. So now we can start making new gains!

Overall I think we got back about where or maybe a bit better than we were before the crash. So now we can start making new gains! More screenshots and maybe even videos coming soon!

Better Call Saul Season 3 – Episode 3

What happened in this episode?

This episode was pretty eventful. We see Jimmy get arrested because his brother turns him in. We see Mike meet Gus for the first time. Another great episode of storytelling and acting.  There is some great relationship dynamics going on between Kim and Jimmy. And we can’t leave out the great acting by the secretary Francesa! Overall another fantastic episode!

Thoughts and predictions…

Vanessa is very disgusted by Jimmy’s brother. In fact, she has hated him for a bit now. I understand that, but to me, it is an interesting dynamic. They are both caniving so it’s interesting to me to see what that leads to. Vanessa thinks that Gus is going to play a bigger part in the coming episodes. She also thinks that Jimmy isn’t going to get out of this mess. She thinks this is what makes him ‘Saul Goodman’. I can see her opinion and why she’d think this and I do agree for the most part. “He’s not a murderer, he’s not a rapist but he is easily one of the best TV villians”, says Vanessa about Jimmy’s brother.

Conclusion…

Overall, Vanessa and I both really enjoyed this episode. It continued the high-quality storytelling and character development. In fact, they are building more and more dynamic relationships with the characters and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out when all those worlds collide!
